Pierce County prep boys basketball team found out their pairings for the upcoming WIAA regional basketball tournaments this past weekend.
In Division 3, Prescott, 15-5 overall, was given a No. 3 seed and has first round by and second round home game. They will take on either No. 6 La Crosse Aquinas or No. 11 Viroqua. Aquinas was one of the top teams in the state at the beginning of the season until one of the nation's top players, UW-Madison bound Bronson Koening, saw his season end with an injury.
Ellsworth, 12-7 overall, is in the same tournament bracket. The Panthers have a home game vs. No. 10 seed Durand. Ellsworth has beaten Durand twice this season but both games have been close and last season EHS was knocked out of the tournament by Durand in the first round despite being the higher seed. If Ellsworth wins, they will head to No. 2 seed Westby.
In Division 4, Spring Valley, 6-15 overall, was able to get a home game as they are a No. 7 seed and they will host Ladysmith. If they win they will travel to Park Falls to take on No. 2 seed Chequamegon on March 2.
In Division 5, Elmwood, 16-5 overall, has the No. 5 seed a home game against a familiar foe in No. 12 seeded Plum City, 6-12 overall. The winner takes on either No. 4 seed Gilmanton or No. 13 Brookwood.
This is the first season in the small and medium-sized school level the half-brackets of each sections were seeded. Coaches had the option to seed regionally but in most cases chose not to.
The first round games are on Feb. 28, semifinals are March 2 and the final are on March 3.
