Four men killed in a weekend drunk driving crash in Fitchburg were identified this morning. The Dane County medical examiner said they were 18 year old Jose Cabrera-Hernandez and 17 year old Martin Sanchez-Gutierrez, both of Madison and 25 year old Michael Dickson and 17 year old Phankham Chitanavong, both of Rockford Illinois. Autopsies were performed on all four victims yesterday, and officials said they all died from various trauma suffered in the crash. The driver, 18 year old Victor Benitez of Madison, was the only survivor. He was still hospitalized at last word, and police say he faces four possible charges of homicide by drunk driving. The crash happened late Saturday afternoon. Fitchburg Police said the van was going at a high rate of speed when it drove past a stop sign, crossed railroad tracks, went airborne, hit a utility pole, and then rolled over. Officials said Benitez left the scene but was caught a few blocks later, and none of the people in the van were wearing seat belts. Meanwhile, Jefferson County authorities continue to investigate a two vehicle crash near Ixonia last night that killed two people.
