Prescott School to host Destination ImagiNation regionals
The Prescott School District will be hosting the Destination ImagiNation regionals this Saturday.
Prescott School District’s Anne Kressly and Yvonne Zarnstorff seized the opportunity to coordinate and host the Destination ImagiNation Regional Competition scheduled to take place at Prescott Middle School on Saturday, Feb., 25 from 7:30 a.m. -- 4:30 p.m.
Destination Imagination (DI), Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides educational programs designed to encourage creativity, teamwork and problem-solving. Each year DI reaches about 125 thousand students around the U.S. and in more than 30 countries. Kressly and Zarnstorff are DI’s West Central Regional Directors. Kressly is an art teacher for grades 6- 8 at Prescott Middle School and has been involved with DI for 15 years at the state-level. Zarnstorff is a special education teacher at Malone Elementary and has been working with DI for about a decade.
There is No I in TEAM
The program is available to students throughout their schooling. There are four levels of competition; Rising Stars– grades K-2; Elementary Level- grades 3-5; Mid-level- grades 6-8; and Senior Level- grades 9-12. Students begin the DI program in October. The competitors at all levels must work together with their student teams to tackle open-ended challenges using creative solutions. Their solutions are then presented at Tournaments where they meet other groups competing at their level. The Tournaments are energetic, entertaining events that celebrate creativity and the power of teamwork.
Come One Come All
It will be the first time ever that Prescott School District has hosted the large event. The many school districts taking part include; Chetek- Weyerhaeuser, Altoona, Mondovi, Colfax, Bloomer, Cadott, New Richmond and Hudson. The Regional Competition involves a two-part presentation including an Instant Challenge. An award ceremony will take place at about 3:30 where 1st; 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced. The lucky 1st and 2nd place winners advance to the state-level competition which will be held in April. This fun, family-friendly event is open to the public. A concession stand will be available courtesy of the Prescott Middle School Parent Committee. You can find out more about DI by visiting www.idodi.org.
