Elmwood girls outlast Spring Valley 53-34

The Spring Valley High School girls basketball team, seeking its first win of the season, played Elmwood close for three quarter but the Raiders outscored them 13-5 in the fourth quarter for a 53-34 win Tuesday.

SPRING VALLEY - The Spring Valley High School girls basketball team, seeking its first win of the season, played Elmwood close for three quarter but the Raiders outscored them 13-5 in the fourth quarter for a 53-34 win Tuesday.

Elmwood led the entire way but SV cut a 31-19 lead early in the second half down to six at 33-27 with 2:31 left in the third quarter before the Raiders outscored them 20-7 for the duration of the ballgame.

Both teams had the same number of field goals but Elmwood made 24-of-34 free throws while the Cardinals were just 5-of-12. EHS's leading scorer, Christina McKune, made 12 from the foul line, over half of a 23-point effort. Teammate McKayla Brunner was also in double figures with 11 points. Breanna Colbenson led Valley with nine points and Leah Jameson finished with eight.

The Raiders improve to 13-7 overall (8-6 in the D-SC) and host St. Croix Central Friday while Spring Valley is at Plum City, who upset Elk Mound Tuesday by a 53-45 score.
