Details emerge on DePere murder-suicide

Police in De Pere said yesterday that a man killed his wife, his two kids, and himself on the same day he was kicked out of his house after 20 years of marriage. Chief Derek Beiderwieden said Denis and Michelle Bay had long-running marital problems -- and they were a main source of stress before Denis committed the triple-murder-suicide at their home on February third. De Pere Police are wrapping up their investigation into the incident, which appears to be the city's first-ever homicide with multiple victims. Beiderwieden said an exact motive could not be determined. But Michelle Bay's decision to make her husband leave appeared to be quote, "the trigger." Denis Bay was 46. Michelle was 44. Their 14-year-old daughter Andrea and 10-year-old son Daniel were also killed. Officials said Michelle filed for divorce in the fall of 2010. She and the kids left, but the couple got back together last summer to try and work things out. Police also said Denis Bay lost his job last March. And Michelle had chronic back pain and a hoarding habit which filled their house with clutter. The chief said there were quote, "a number of stressors." Police said they said had great cooperation from relatives and others in their investigation. A family spokesman said relatives would not comment.
