MADISON - Prescott's Josh Farr and Matt Pechacek both will come away from the 69th WIAA State Individual Wrestling Meet with medals as they both won their consolation round matches Friday afternoonat the Kohl Center.
Both wrestlers lost in the quarterfinals this morning. Farr couldn't come back from an early 4-0 deficit to Deerfield's Fritz Vogel at 113 in after he scored a takedown and nearfall in the first period. Farr was able to cut into the lead at 4-2 in the third but was unable to get the takedown he needed to tie the match. The loss was considered an upset as Farr was ranked the top wrestler in the class in Division 3
Pechacek lost a close bout as well. He battled Edgar's Luke Nowak back and forth at 170, leading 7-6 in the third period when Nowak scored a takedown and two-point nearfall for a 10-7 win.
But Farr came back to beat Marathon's Judd Gross 9-3 and Pechacek edged Flambeau's Mike Scharenbrock 4-3. Had the two PHS wrestlers lost they would have been eliminated from the tournament. Now they will have a place on the awards stand.
Placing matches take place Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
