SVE to have three place winners at state

MADISON - Spring Valley/Elmwood wrestlers Brady Webb and Brian Fesenmaier will both be competing in tonight's semifinals while Andy Bune guaranteed himself a medal after Friday's day action at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center.

Webb eked out a 3-2 win in the quarterfinals over Random Lake's Mark Meyer at 113 in a sneak preview of next week's state team tournament (SV/Elmwood will take on Random Lake in the Division 3 state semifinal).

Despite being cut and bandaged Fesenmaier knocked off sectional champ Taylor Sina of Princeton 5-2 at 160. Fesenmaier's lead was cut to 3-2 after a stalling call penalty point was award to Sina. But Fesemaier came quickly back with a takedown to secure the win and a trip to tonight's semis which begin at 7 p.m.

SVE's Andy Bune assured him no worse than sixth place by winning in the consolation round over B.J. Bruggnink of Oostburg 8-0 at 182. Bune had lost 4-0 to Mineral Point's Robby Chubb in the quarterfinals.

The tournament came to an end for SVE's Tyler Hunter. He lost his 195-pound quarterfinal match to Pittsville's Ollie Voight 7-6. Hunter scored a takedown to go up 6-5 but a reversal in the last few seconds gave Voight the win. And then in the consolation round Hunter was pinned by Roayll's Christian Moore in 2:33.

Tonight's semifinal match-ups has Webb against Kyle Mazera of Lancaster (Sr. 45-1) while Fesenmaier will take on Coleman's Mike Mergener (Sr. 38-6).
