Badger hockey teams both winners Friday
Wisconsin Sports-- The University of Wisconsin men's hockey team won only its second road game of the season in their very first trip to Bemidji State Friday while the women easily won their first playoff game.

The Wisconsin Badgers men's team exploded for three goals in the second period on the way to a 4-2 win over Bemidji State. The Badgers trailed 1-0 going into that period. Frankie Simonelli tied the score when his shot ricocheted off the BSU goalie’s skate and into the net. Justin Schultz made is 2-1 two minutes later and Michael Mersch scored what would be the game-winning goal just :13 seconds before the period was to end. Bemidji moved back within a goal, but John Ramage gave the Badgers some breathing room with 30 seconds left. Wisconsin’s record improves to 14-15-2 with just the second road victory of the season. The Badgers are 9-14-2 in WCHA.
Senior Brooke Ammerman scored four times as the Wisconsin women’s hockey team opened playoff action with a 7-0 rout of Minnesota State at a sold-out Eagles Nest Ice Arena in Verona. The Badgers go up 1-0 in the best-of-three series. One of the two goals Brianna Decker scored came while the Badgers were short-handed. Wisconsin scored in every period and was never threatened. They out-shot Minnesota State 39-20. The other Wisconsin goal was scored by Brittany Ammerman. The goals by Brooke Ammerman gave her 95 for her career. Wisconsin returns to the Eagles Nest in Verona tonight for game-two of the playoff series.
