Gopher men win in OT, women win first playoff game

-- The University of Minnesota hockey teams were double winners Friday with the men winning in overtime over Nebraska-Omaha while the women won the WCHA playoff series opener with St. Cloud State 6-1.

The University of Minnesota hockey teams were double winners Friday with the men winning in overtime over Nebraska-Omaha while the women won the WCHA playoff series opener with St. Cloud State 6-1.

The U's Jake Parenteau scored his first-ever collegiate goal which was the game winner in overtime at the Century Center in Omaha. The Golden Gophers also got goals from Nick Bjugstad and Sam Warning. Bjugstad's goal tied the score in the third period after they fell behind 2-1. UNO had a goal from Somerset's Brock Monpetit. Winning goalie Kent Patterson made 22 saves.

Minnesota's women's team was a 6-1 playoff winner over SCSU at Ridder Arena. The Gophers scored three goals in the first and added two early ones in the second for a 5-0 lead. Kelly Terry had a goal and two assists to lead the U. Winning goalie Noora Raty made 19 saves.
