MADISON - Ellsworth High School wrestlers came away with a pair of fourth places in Saturday afternoon's action at the WIAA State Individual State Wrestling Tournament in the Kohl Center. They also came away with an injured wrestler as well.
The Panthers' Roarke Langer lost his Division 2 third place match at 132 to Luxemburg-Casco's Zach Skarda by injury default. He had led Skarda 3-0 early in the match but after being pushed out of bounds by Skarda, Langer fell down and had to be helped up while the match was stopped.
In the second period Skarda took the lead 5-3 on a five-point takedown and nearfall. Langer gave up the escape to start the third but scored a takedown to come within a point at 6-5. He gave up another escape point and went for the tie with a takedown but he was taken down himself and hit his head on the mat hard enough to stop the match with head injury and award the win to Skarda.
Langer had to be helped to his feet and taken to the Kohl Center's on-site medical facilities. Assistant coach Jack Radabaugh said Langer would be fine shortly after the match. He was in the stands watching the state finals and to stand on the awards podium for his medal.
Also going on at the same time was the third place match between EHS's Brent Stockwell and Wrightstown's Brett Buechler at 126. Stockwell will be happy not to see Bruechler again as he beat Stockwell for the second time in the tournament, a 10-0 major decision.
Stockwell won earlier in the day 5-3 over Waupaca's Levi Petroske and Langer downed Monroe's Kevin Klopfenstein 3-1.
