Jared Berggren hit a three-pointer with 31 seconds left to give 16th-ranked Wisconsin a 63-60 win yesterday at Number-eight Ohio State.
The 6-10 center scored his team’s final five points, as Badgers defeated a Top-10 opponent on the road for the first time since 1980. The game was tied at 29 at the half, and the Badgers were down by one when Berggren put up his three-pointer from the left wing. He then hit two free throws with 14-point-two seconds left to put Wisconsin up by four. Ohio State missed several shots in its final possession, but was fouled with three-tenths of a second left. Aaron Craft made a free throw – but it was too late for the Buckeyes to do any other damage, as they lost their third game in their last five. Deshaun Thomas led the Buckeyes with 23 points. Jordan Taylor had 19 and Berggren 18 for Wisconsin, which recovered from a loss at Iowa last Thursday night and is now 9-and-4 on the road. But the Badgers remain in fourth place in the Big Ten at 10-and-6 with a week to go in the regular season. Ohio State and Michigan are tied for second at 11-and-5, and Michigan State has clinched at least a share of the conference crown at 13-and-3. The Badgers will host Minnesota tomorrow night.
