County D-SC girls hoops teams conclude regular season

Thursday evening was the final evening of the regular season for Pierce County's Dunn-St. Croix girls basketball teams.

Elmwood put the finishing touches on its first winning season since 2006 and best overall campaign since the mid-1990s after clocking Glenwood City 59-44 at GC. Christina McKune had another 20-point plus game with a game-high 22 while teammate McKayla Brunner provided 18 points and Becky Hartung had a season high 10 points. The Raiders led 34-22 at halftime and despite only scoring six point in the third quarter finished strong with a 19-point fourth quarter.

Plum City notched its fourth straight win 61-38 at home over Gilmanton, 6-13 overall. Seniors Tessa Winkler, Tiffany Clare, Ashley Longsdorf and Morgan Sweeney were honored with a win in their final game on PC's home court. The Blue Devils led 22-15 at halftime and outscored the Panthers 39-23 in the second half. Plum City had three players in double figures led by Marah Boyer's 17 points, Tiffany Clare's 12 and Heather Von Holtum's 10 points.

Spring Valley's two seniors ballplayers, Ellen Larson and Leah Jameson, could get the same send off at home as the Cardinals lost to St. Croix Central 42-35 and finished winless for the regular season. The scored was tied 13-13 at halftime but the Panthers, 2-20 overall, gradually pulled away from SV in the second half, leading by as many as 10 points, 40-30, late in the fourth quarter. Jameson had nine points for Valley while the team's leading scorer was Emily Boisen with 13 points.

All three teams begin regional tournament play Monday with Elmwood hosting Hillsboro, Plum City at Wonewoc Center and Spring Valley at Grantsburg.
