(Rochester, MN) -- A young Rochester child who was stabbed by an intruder Thursday underwent more surgery Friday night and police say he is in critical condition.
The two-year-old boy was stabbed in the abdomen by a man who had a previous relationship with the toddler's mother. She woke up to discover the 23-year-old in her children's bedroom and yelled for her brother and a house guest. Those two men were also stabbed during a confrontation and one underwent surgery to his upper torso.
The intruder fled but was caught with the help of a police dog about an hour later hiding in a nearby garage. The man was treated for bite and knife wounds and then taken to jail. He is expected to be charged on Monday. Police say the suspect - who is not the boy's father - had been drinking but the motive for the stabbing is not known at this time.
