Prescott High School's boys basketball team won its first regional title since 2009 under new head coach Nick Johnson 58-50 at Westby Saturday but Elmwood lost in the regional finals 63-54 to Chippewa Falls McDonell.
The win for the Cardinals was the first significant win it's had against an opponent with a winning record in its own gymnasium. The Cardinals, 18-5 overall, will play Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau, one of the top-ranked teams in the state in Division 3, in the sectional semifinals Thursday in Osseo.
Prescott shot over 50 percent from the field led by Billy Brookshaw's 21 points.
For the Raiders it was another tough loss in a regional semifinal. EHS led No. 6 ranked McDonell by nine points in the third quarter after trailing at halftime 26-24 when the Macks rallied behind 10 fourth quarter points from the game's leading scorer: Kyle Cody with 22 points. Cody, a 6-4 forward who will be attending the University of Kentucky on a baseball scholarship, also had 13 rebounds. Elmwood was outscored 20-8 in the fourth quarter.
Kyle Webb led the Raiders with 17 points, Seth Jones scored 13 and Tanner Hoyt finished with 10 points.
