Sunday Sports Briefs: Brewers begin exhibition play
Wisconsin Sports-- The Milwaukee Brewers’ defense of their National League Central Division title begins with the first spring training game today against San Francisco.
PHOENIX - The Milwaukee Brewers’ defense of their National League Central Division title begins with the first spring training game today against San Francisco.
Zack Greinke and Randy Wolf are scheduled to appear in the game. The weather is expected to be sunny, with a high in the mid to upper-60s. The Brewers are counting the days – 34 of them – until opening day at Miller Park April 6th against the Cardinals. Yesterday, the Brewers announced they had renewed the contract of closer John Axford. Last year, Axford set the team record with 46 saves. He struck out 86 batters in less than 74 innings, with a 2-2 record and an ERA of 1.95.

Two Wisconsin Badgers senior men's basketball players will be honored today at the Kohl Center before the final regular season game of the year. Point guard Jordan Taylor and guard-forward Rob Wilson will be singled out before the Badgers take on Illinois in a noon tipoff. Wisconsin comes in with a record of 22-8, including 11-6 in Big Ten Conference play.

Dwight Howard led the way with 28 points and 14 rebounds as the Orlando Magic beat Milwaukee for the fourth time in three weeks, 114-98. Howard was strong inside and the Magic had the touch from long range, hitting 14 of 27 three-point shots. Orlando had six players in double figures. Brandon Jennings led the Bucks with 27 points, getting 18 point help from Ersan Ilyasova. Orlando won an error-filled game that saw both teams making 20 turnovers or more. The Magic were 11-of-18 from the field in the fourth quarter.
