Hart says he needs surgery to fix damaged knee

PHOENIX - Milwaukee Brewers’ outfielder Corey Hart said he was given the option of playing through his right knee injury. But he said it would have not gotten any better – and it probably would have been worse. That’s why Hart decided to have surgery today, so there’s a chance he’ll recover before the start of the regular season on April 6.
Otherwise, Hart feared that his torn meniscus would have deteriorated, and he would have been out for 3-to-4 months instead of the 3-to-4 weeks which are now projected. The Brewers’ All-Star right-fielder missed all of last spring’s exhibition games with a strained rib cage. He was on the disabled list for the first 22 games of the regular season, and struggled after that. But Hart recovered nicely and he batted .285 in 2011 with 26 homers and 63 RBI’s. He said he injured the knee since he arrived at Spring Training – but he’s not sure how or when it happened.
Hart said he fell on concrete while running to Ryan Braun’s news conference 11 days ago – but he’s not sure if it had anything to do with his injury. The Brewers are 1-0-1 in their Cactus League exhibition season. They’ll play the Oakland A’s this afternoon in Phoenix.

Milwaukee Brewers’ minority owner Tony Ressler is making a second effort to buy the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Los Angeles Times said Ressler has teamed up with Michael Heisley, who owns the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies. Ressler was apparently one of the earliest bidders to buy the Dodgers – but he had been eliminated before finding a partner to try again. Ressler has owned part of the Brewers since Mark Attanasio bought the team in 2005, but he’s not on the Brewers’ Advisory Board. Ressler’s brother Richard is also a Brewers’ investor.
