LA CROSSE - The Augsburg College wrestling team under the leadership of Ellsworth’s Mark Matzek, will look to win another NCAA Division III wrestling championship this weekend as they compete in the national meet at the La Crosse Center Friday and Saturday.

The Auggies recently won the Great Lake Regional and will have eight wrestlers in the tournament field. They are currently ranked No. 4 in the country.

The Auggies compiled a 12-3 dual meet record, their only losses coming to No. 1 Wartburg College (twice) and to No. 2 UW-La Crosse. Besides winning the regional meet this season, they also went undefeated in the Minnesota Duals.

Augusburg finished second in last year’s Division III meet. They won the national title back in 2010 and have finished in the top of four of the meet for the past 23 seasons which is an NCAA record.

The meet will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and the finals are at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Foremer EHS wrestler Zach Riester is a member of the Augsburg team.
