OSSEO - Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau proved too tough for Prescott to take down in the WIAA Division 3 Boys Basketball sectional semifinal game Thursday evening at Osseo-Fairchild High School.
The No. 2 ranked Red Hawks outscored Prescott 30-18 in the second half to beat them 53-38 and advance to Saturday's sectional final in River Falls against Somerset, who downed Maple Northwestern in the other semifinal 65-38. Tip-off for the finals will be at 7 p.m. at River Falls High School.
PHS only trailed 23-20 at halftime against the 24-1 Red Hawks but G-E-T's leading scorer Riley Bembenek scored eight of his game-high 22 points in the third quarter to extend his team's lead.
Bembenek fouled out with three minutes to go in the fourth quarter and PHS had opportunities to rally in the game. But the Cardinals, 18-6 overall, couldn't take advantage as they had over 20 turnovers, made just 11-of-20 from the free-throw line and made only three, three-point baskets.
Nick Jacobsen led PHS in scoring with 11 points and Mike Lytle finished with 10 points.
