PORT WASHINGTON - Port Washington police report visitors to the lighthouse yesterday just before noon spotted a man in the water about 300 yards from the marina.

The Port Washington Fire Department’s rescue team found the 24 year old man, pulled him into its boat and started CPR. The man was taken to Aurora Medical Center.

Investigators think he may have been kayaking in the lake, but no kayak was found. Some waves were as high as five feet at the time. Police say they found a vehicle with a trailer for a kayak or canoe in a beach area about a half-mile south of downtown Port Washington.
