LAS VEGAS - Paul Menard of Eau Claire took seventh in yesterday’s NASCAR Kobalt Tools-400.
Matt Kenseth of Cambridge took 22nd. He was beat out by race winner Tony Stewart in the final round of pit stops under caution. Travis Kvapil of Janesville finished 39th after he had engine trouble just five laps into the race. Kenseth dropped one place to fifth in the Sprint Cup season point standings after three races. Menard rose three spots to 11th. Kvapil dropped four places to 35th.
In the Nationwide Series, Beloit-born Danica Patrick is 15th in the point standings. She rose six places from a week ago, after placing 12th on Saturday in the Sam’s Town-300 in Vegas. Tim Schendel of Sparta took 29th, and he remains 28th in the point totals. Ricky Stenhouse Junior won the race, and Elliott Sadler still leads the Nationwide standings.
