MADISON - Just over 931,000 signatures were submitted to recall Governor Scott Walker – and about 25,000 have been thrown out so far. The Government Accountability Board issued its first official numbers yesterday of the total signatures submitted on January 17th.

They were 70,000 short of the one-million signatures that Democrats and other recall supporters claimed they handed in against Walker. But as the Board continues to review the petitions, it appears that the number of valid signatures will be well above the 540,000 needed to hold a recall election. Also, about 843,000 signatures were filed to recall Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch. The Board has thrown out around 29,000 – and she, too, would stand for election if there are 540,000 valid signatures.

The Board has until next Monday to finish reviewing the petitions, but they’ll ask a judge tomorrow for more time. They’ll also ask that all the recall contests be held on the same days – May 8 for either primaries or general elections, depending on the numbers of challengers. Those with primaries could have general elections on June 5. The board validated enough signatures yesterday for recall votes against four GOP senators – Scott Fitzgerald, Terry Moulton, Pam Galloway, and Van Wanggaard.
