TO THE EDITOR: Knock knock. Who’s there? Thought police.

The economy is on the ropes, families continue to lose their homes, real unemployment is in double digits, Iran is threatening to close the Straights of Hormuz, thousands of Syrians have died at the hands of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Republicans are being beaten up because the thought police don’t like the fact that the Catholic Church believes the use of artificial contraceptives to be a sin.

The cost of food is on the rise, Vladimir Putin in Russia and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Iran are winning their free and open elections (sarcasm), Americans die in Afghanistan because someone gave the order to burn their “holy book,” the deficit hits $15 Trillion and Rick Santorum is being grilled because, as a Catholic, he speaks openly about his church's thoughts on birth control.

Now I am not a Santorum guy, but geeze Louise no one is trying to take anyone’s birth control away. Entities morally opposed to birth control in a country that used to respect people’s differences are trying to keep from being forced to pay for it. The Obama administration has spun the issue out of whack, duping people with half-truths.

I really don’t like defending the GOP, they don’t deserve it; I am so tired of having to choose the lesser of two evils. The GOP and the Democrats are both lousy answers to our problems.

Nonetheless, American women, rest assured; no one is trying to take away your birth control. When someone drives the argument in that direction, ask them what they think about any of the real issues, it will tell you something about them. Oh that the world we're running so well that birth control could afford to be the biggest thing we faced.
