UPDATE: Fire guts granary southeast of EllsworthA granary fire was fought by the Ellsworth Fire Department Wednesday.
A granary fire was fought by the Ellsworth Fire Department Wednesday. Fire fighters were called to the property owned by Nial Murray and occupied by Jerome Murray at N2432 490th St., Bay City, in the Town of Salem at 5:14 p.m. The renovated granary was totally gutted. Two raccoons were displaced. The blaze is said to have originated with open burning; grass was being burned on the west side of the building and it burned around to the front of the building, where it started a board against the building on fire, which started the building itself on fire. The Plum City Fire Department was initially summoned to help haul water, but was later canceled. Besides the EFD, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and Ellsworth Ambulance Service responded to the scene, along 490th just south of 250th Avenue and east of CTH D. The department was there until 7:15 p.m.
