NEW RICHMOND - It was a double-whammy as far as this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade in New Richmond.

The annual event was on Saturday for the first time in many years, and record-setting warm weather greeted attendees.

The result? A huge crowd of thousands of Irish revelers turned out for Saturday's 2 p.m. parade in downtown New Richmond.

The parade lasted a solid 45 minutes. Kids lined the streets and yelled for candy to be thrown their way. People dressed in green was the rule rather than the exception along the parade route.

It was a far cry from some previous parades, where cool temperatures kept crowds down and oftentimes parade marchers had to dodge snow piles along the residential streets.

Because of the Saturday festivities this year, many businesses were planning on St. Patrick's Day events and specials during the day and evening
