MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel said it received records today showing that six Marquette men’s basketball players were ticketed this month for underage drinking. The news came just hours before the Golden Eagles were due to leave for Phoenix – where they’ll play Florida on Thursday night in the Sweet-16 round of the NCAA Tournament.

The tickets were served eight days ago against freshman guards Todd Mayo and Derrick Wilson – freshman forward Juan Anderson – sophomore guard Vander Blue – sophomore forward Jamail Jones – and junior guard Jake Thomas. All are 18-to-20, younger than state’s legal drinking age of 21. They’re facing fines of $374 each for being minors in the Apartment 720 Club in downtown Milwaukee. Milwaukee Police released a report about the citations to the newspaper today. It asked for the document February 29th under the state’s Open Records Law. Five of the players told an investigator they just walked right in. Blue said he thought he was at a birthday party, because some people had wrist bands – and he assumed they were the ones eligible to drink.

Last May, Blue was fined $366 for punching a man outside a restaurant on the Marquette campus. School officials had not commented on the new allegations by early afternoon. The Journal-Sentinel said that Blue, Darius Johnson-Odom, and Junior Cadougan did not play in the first half of a game in February for violating team rules. And the paper said it could not determine if the tavern incident had anything to do with it. Meanwhile, police were still trying to decide if the bar’s owners should be ticketed. They just had their city licenses renewed this morning.
