Minnesota State Boys Basketball Tournament celebrates 100th year

MINNEAPOLIS -- The 2012 State Boys' Basketball Tournament opens Wednesday morning at Target Center and Williams Arena in Minneapolis.

Perham looks to defend its 2011 Class Two-A championship while Hopkins goes for its fourth straight 4A title. Lakeview Christian Academy of Duluth, Browerville and Prairie Seeds Academy of Brooklyn Park are making their first state tournament appearances in Class 1A. St.Croix Lutheran of West St.Paul makes its debut in Class 2A.

This is the 100th year of the state tournament which began in 1913 at Carleton College in Northfield. The Class 4A, 3A and 2A quarterfinals begin Wednesday and the Class 1A opening round begins Thursday.
