Good results for Prescott in first meet

There were several first places and top finishes for the Prescott High School Track and Field teams at their first meet of the season Thursday.

RIVER FALLS - There were several first places and top finishes for the Prescott High School track and field teams at their first meet of the season Thursday.

The Cardinals participated in the New Richmond Indoor Invitational at UWRF's Knowles Center. No team scores were kept. Also competing were Amery, Osceola, St. Croix Falls, New Richmond and Somerset.

The Cards' were winners in five events in the boys' meet. Sam Smith took first in the 55-meter dash in 6.81 seconds and in the long jump in 19 feet, eight inches. His teammate, Matt Pechacek, won the 800-meter run in 2:06.09. Both of them teammed up to lead PHS to winning both the 1600 and 3200-meter relays in 2:34.97 and 8:42.02 respectively. Smith also took third place in 200 and Nick Jacobsen was fourth in the shot put.

Prescott's Autumn Stees won first in the girls meet in the long jump with a leap of 15-8. Teammate Victoria Simones won the mile run in 5:46.14. Stees also took second in the 800 and Prescott freshman Amanda Meyer placed third in the same event. The Cards' 1600 and 3200 relays both finished second and Jessica Hanneman finished fifth in the shot put.

PHS's next meet is their own Prescott Invitational on April 3.
