Winter sports season wraps-up with state girls' hoops tourney finals
Wisconsin Sports-- For the second straight weekend Milwaukee Rufus King falls in a Division-1 championship basketball game.
MADISON - For the second straight weekend Milwaukee Rufus King falls in a Division-1 championship basketball game at the Kohl Center.
Saturday, the Rufus King girls were edged by DePere 60-57 as a three-point shot at the buzzer rimmed in and out. Senior center Emma Konopasek led DePere with 21 points and nine rebounds. DePere won its last 20 games in a row, finishing with a 24-4 record and the title.

Bridget Pethke set a new Division-2 state record with nine steals, helping lead New London to a 43-39 win over New Berlin Eisenhower in the state championship final. Wisconsin Miss Basketball Nicole Bauman scored 14 points. Both teams came in undefeated, with New London finishing 28-0 and Eisenhower 27-1.

Kewaunee made it back to the Division 3 championship game this year and turned the tables, winning this time by a 50-41 score over Oosburg. Kewaunee had lost the title game last year by six to Altoona. Kewaunee won by hitting 8-of-17 three-point shots. Jill Kleimel hit four of them and scored 14 points for the winners.

McKenzie Trunkle hit four long-range jumpers and finished with 15 points as her Neillsville team finished the season undefeated and champions of Division 4. Neillsville finished with a 28-0 record, beating Oshkosh Lourdes 52-42.

The tough defense by Milwaukee Heritage Christian led the school to a surprisingly-easy 79-51 win over Owen-Withee in the Division 5 championship game. Heritage forced 31 turnovers and Moriah Begin set a division record with eight steals. Jazmine Hrris led Heritage scoring with 17 points.
