A suburban Milwaukee native has been named the Horizon League’s baseball pitcher of the week. Kevin Wild of Brown Deer is a senior at Valparaiso – and he threw a no-hitter for nine innings last week until he gave up a double in the 10th against UW-Milwaukee. But the runner didn’t score – and Wild ended up with a no-decision as Valpo scored a 1-0 victory. Ryan Boss of Illinois-Chicago is the Horizon League position player-of-the-week.

Stephanie Rieuwpassa of Ripon College is the softball pitcher-of-the-week in the Midwest Conference. Rieuwpassa, a junior, did not allow an earned run in 13 innings. And she tossed a pair of three-hitters in a 3-1 loss and a 4-nothing win, both against Coe College. Rieuwpassa struck out 16 hitters, moving her into second place on Ripon’s all-time strikeout list with 286. Alyssa Edler of Monmouth was named the league’s top position player.
