Ellsworth couple to be honored today
OSHKOSH -- During the second day of one of Wisconsin’s largest annual farm shows, an Ellsworth couple is expected to be honored, in part, for their work as volunteers during the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days held nearly two years ago in Pierce County.
OSHKOSH -- During the second day of one of Wisconsin’s largest annual farm shows, an Ellsworth couple is expected to be honored, in part, for their work as volunteers during the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days held nearly two years ago in Pierce County.
Dale and Julie Hines are expected to receive the “Master Agriculturalist Award” sponsored by the Wisconsin Agriculturist magazine. The award, previewed in a full-page story in the magazine's April edition, calls attention to the Hineses dedication to farming. The couple, together with Dale's brother Dean and their parents, farm 810 owned and rented acres and milk 80 Holstein cows. They've farmed for 34 years.
Last year, the farm magazine honored another Pierce County couple -- Jim and Lannette Harsdorf -- in the same issue. The Harsdorfs, who operate farms near Beldenville and Spring Valley, also were instrumental in producing the 2010 Farm Technology Days.
The farm show, held on the same grounds where the Experimental Aircraft Association hosts its annual exhibition each summer, features 475 exhibitors showing off the latest in agriculture. Four large hangars are filled with those displays, and there’s a lot to see outdoors as well. A children’s pedal tractor pull was to take place Wednesday and there are educational seminars daily.
The Wisconsin Public Service utility used to hold the event in Green Bay, but it moved to Oshkosh a decade ago and organizers say the massive EAA grounds have allowed the show to grow dramatically.
