Prescott softball edges SV/PC 7-6
The Prescott High School softball team won the season opener for themselves and Spring Valley/Plum City Monday 7-6.
PRESCOTT - The Prescott High School softball team won the season opener for themselves and Spring Valley/Plum City Monday 7-6.
Prescott won with a two-RBI walk-off double by Mary Kate Pryor. One of the top infielders in the state, she went 3-4 on the night with four RBIs. Teammate Paige Durhman also went 3-4 with thee runs and three stolen bases. PHS's Dani Augustine scored twice runs and new third base starter Francie Gedatus had a clutch two-out, two-RBI single in the sixth inning.
Freshman Annie Pryor started on the rubber for the Lady Cards and was relieved by Sophomore Katy Syverson who picked up the win.
"This was the first varsity action for both pitchers who both battled out of some jams with poise." PHS head coach Matt Smith said.
Despite the loss there were positives for SV/PC. They trailed 2-0 early on but led the game 3-2 with three runs plated in the third. They also scored three more runs in the fifth to take a 6-3 advantage.
Emily Hofacker led SV/PC at the plate with two hits plus an RBI. Teammate Megan Manor also drove in a run as did Rachel Samdahl.
Prescott hosts St. Croix Central in a non-conference game this evening.
