Halle Hatch gave up just two hits and struck out six in six innings of work as Ellsworth won its season-opening game 5-1 over Glenwood City Tuesday in Ellsworth.
Hatch allowed one unearned run and walked two while the Panthers provided her with some run support late in the game.
Glenwood City struck in the first inning for a 1-0 lead, but Ellsworth came back in the third for a pair of runs to grab a 2-1 lead.
The Panthers added a run in the fourth and two in the sixth to seal the win.
Taylor Nelson went 3-for-4 with two runs for Ellsworth while Mackenzie Diercks finished 2-for-2 and Mariah Diercks went 2-for-4 with a run.
The Panthers finished with nine hits, but struck out eight times against Glenwood City starter Rhonda Ross. Ellsworth faces Durand Thursday in Ellsworth.
