-- Green Bay Packers’ safety Nick Collins plans to meet with team officials next week to discuss his future.

GREEN BAY - Green Bay Packers’ safety Nick Collins plans to meet with team officials next week to discuss his future.

His agent, Alan Herman, says an exact date for the meeting has not been set. But sometime afterward, Collins plans to announce whether he’ll keep playing football in the wake of his devastating neck injury last September. Herman said Collins feels fine, and he took a series of tests on his neck last Friday. He would not reveal the results – but he said Collins would base his decision on several scans.

The eight-year Pro Bowler suffered a herniated disc after Carolina running back Jonathan Stewart tried to hurdle over him last September in Charlotte. The 28-year-old Collins was coming off three straight Pro Bowl seasons at the time. Herman and Packers’ coach Mike McCarthy have both said they’d rather see Collins retire than risk making himself worse.
