Plum City, Spring Valley winners on opening day in D-SC

Spring Valley topped Eau Galle rival Elmwood 3-1 at Elmwood and Plum City won at Glenwood City 12-5.
The Cardinals grabbed an early 2-0 lead on Troy Rudesill's two-RBI single and held on tight to it behind winning pitcher Andy Bune's three-hit performance. Bune gave up just one walk while striking out three.
Despite the loss, Elmwood starter Logan Wolf struck out 15 SV batters. This was the Raiders' first contest of the season while Valley improves to 2-0.
Plum City lead-off batter Darren Fetzer had three hits and scored twice in PC's first win of the season.
The Blue Devils had good balance throughout their batting order. No. 6 hitter Ben Funk crushed three hits, including two doubles and scored four times while No. 8 hitter Nash Gilles was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-RBI single in the fourth inning.
The winning pitcher was Tyler Niebur who gave up juts four hits and struck out six in six innings. Chad Fox got the save to close out the seventh. PC improves to 1-2 overall.
