HAMMOND - Two Pierce County prep track and field teams placed second in the respective meets at Thursday’s 12-team St. Croix Central Invitational, one of the largest early-season at-school track meets in the area.
Somerset swept both meets, winning the boys’ with 133 points while the girls’ team won with 105 points. Prescott finished second in the boys meet and Elmwood/Plum City was second in the girls meet.
The team standings in the boys’ meet were Somerset followed by Prescott with 101 points, the host Panthers 91.50 points, Amery 60, Elk Mound 53, Mondovi 45, Boyceville 44.50, Colfax 43.50, Baldwin-Woodville 38.50, Spring Valley 33.50, Glenwood City 31.50 and Elmwood/Plum City 27
For the girls meet it was the Spartans, E/PC with 91 points, Central 63, Prescott 62, Colfax 61, Amery 54, Baldwin-Woodville 53, Mondovi 53, Elk Mound 53, Spring Valley 44, Glenwood City 34 and Boyceville 28.
County winners in the girls meet were Prescott’s Victoria Simones in the mile run in 5:35.50; Spring Valley’s Breanna Colbenson, in the two-mile run in 11:36; the Elmwood/PC 800-meter relay team of Heather Von Holtum, Sarah Gilles, Marah Boyer and Morgan Sweeney in1:53.77; the E/PC girls 3200-meter relay team of Elaina Danzinger, Abbie Hartung, Von Holtum and Becky Hartung in 10:26.74; Prescott’s Autumn Stees in the long jump with a leap of 15-4 and Boyer in the triple jump with a leap of 31-11.
In the boys’ meet, PHS’s Sam Smith was a triple winner, taking first in the 200-meter dash in :22.98 seconds, the 400-meter dash in :51.28 seconds and the long jump in 19 feet, nine inches.
Other county winners were Smith’s teammates, Matt Pechacek in the 800 in 2:03.33 and Cole Hauenstein in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:17.16. Elmwood/PC’s Seth Jones won the 1600-meter run in 4:57.98
