An 11-year-old boy was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul late Sunday afternoon after he struck a road sign while riding a dirt bike in a ditch in the town of Oak Grove.

PRESCOTT — An 11-year-old boy was airlifted to Regions Hospital in St. Paul late Sunday afternoon after he struck a road sign while riding a dirt bike.

Emergency personnel were called to N5890 1110th St., an address in a sub-division just south of US Highway 10, when the boy was riding along a paved road at 5:17 p.m. when he crashed into the 4-by-6-inch wooden post with a sign attached. He was thrown from the bike and landed in the grass.

The youth, who was wearing a helmet, was transported from the scene by medical helicopter.

Sheriff Nancy Hove declined to give out the boy's name, citing privacy laws.

Pierce County Sheriff's deputies were assisted by members of the Prescott Ambulance Service and fire department.
