CHICAGO - The Milwaukee Brewers got crushed by the Chicago Cubs this afternoon, 8-0 at Wrigley Field. The Cubs put up six runs in the third inning, as they foiled the Brewers’ attempt to pull off their first four-game series sweep at Wrigley in team history.
Zack Greinke lasted only three-and-two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs on nine hits with five strike-outs and a walk. He took the loss, and dropped to 5-7 on the road in his one-plus years with the Brew Crew. The first four Cubs in the batting order all drove in runs. Starlin Castro and Alfonso Soriano drove in two apiece. Matt Garza got the win. He was pulled just before he could record the game’s final out, after Nori Aoki reached second on an error.
That was about the most tense rally moment for the Brewers, who were limited to three singles. Garza struck out nine. The Brewers are now 4-3 on the young season. They’ll play at Atlanta tomorrow night.
