ATLANTA - The Milwaukee Brewers have lost eight straight games in Atlanta, after falling to the Braves 7-4 yesterday. The Brewers were swept for three this weekend – and they still haven’t won at Turner Field since July 17th of 2010.
Manager Ron Roenicke said the Brewers are not doing what they need to do on offense or on the mound. He said his team had a poor start last year, and he didn’t want that to happen again.
Chipper Jones, who sat out the first two games of the series with knee swelling, returned for the Braves and hit a three-run homer. Menasha native Eric Hinske had a two-run single, and Jason Heyward hit a solo shot for Atlanta. Brandon Beachy held Milwaukee to one unearned run on three hits in seven innings, with a pair of walks and six strikeouts. He improved to 1-1. Chris Narveson took the loss, giving up five runs on four hits in four innings. He’s now 1-1.
The Braves were up 7-1 in the ninth when Jonathan Lucroy hit a two-run homer and Corey Hart added an RBI-double to make the score respectable. Lucroy also had an RBI-single, as Milwaukee dropped its fourth straight overall. The Brewers came home with the National League’s worst ERA at 5.65, and a struggling offense with a .228 team batting average. They’re 4-6 overall, and they’re off today before hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers tomorrow night.
