A Prescott teenager had his felony drug charges dismissed last week in Pierce County Circuit Court.

Trever L. Leyde, 17, isn’t walking away easy, however. Leyde was accepted into the Challenge Academy, located at Ft. McCoy, which required the felony charges to be dismissed.

“We think he will have a better shot of turning his life around down there,” Assistant District Attorney Bill Thorie said.

According to its website, the Challenge Academy is a 17-month program for at-risk youth for teenagers, including a 22-week residential phase during which cadets can earn their GED, and work on changing their viewpoints on life and character.

After the residential phase, cadets participate in a 12-month period when they must go on to jobs, post-secondary education or military service.
