Mbakwe announces he'll play a sixth season at the U

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota power forward Trevor Mbakwe of St Paul says he will definitely be back with the Golden Gophers next season.

The NCAA granted Mbakwe a rare sixth year of eligibility last month. He was mulling whether to return to the Gophers or explore opportunities in professional basketball.

In making the announcement he'd return, he said in a released statement yesterday that coming back gives him the chance to "contribute to a team that showed it can be dangerous." Mbakwe says returning will also allow him an opportunity to leave the school with a Master's degree.

Mbakwe suffered a season-ending knee injury last November. He was the Big Ten's leading rebounder as a junior.
