County teams, athletes sweep Cardinal Invitational
Prescott's boys and Elmwood/Plum City's girls team were winners of the Cardinal Invitational track and field meet Tuesday at Eleva-Strum High School.
CENTRAL - Prescott's boys' and Elmwood/Plum City's girls' team were winners of the 10-team Cardinal Invitational track and field meet Tuesday held at Eleva-Strum High School.
Led by Boys' Athlete of the Meet Sam Smith, the Prescott squad amassed 170 points. Spring Valley finished third with 70 points.
Smith won four events, the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashed and the long jump. PHS also won the 1600 and 3200-meter relays, had Matt Pechacek win the 800-meter run and Cole Hauenstein win the 3200-meter run.
EPC won the girls meet with 108 points, just edging out Spring Valley who had 100. Prescott placed fifth with 75 points.
EPC was able to win the meet with overwhelming depth as they placed first in just one event, the 300-meter low hurdles won by Sarah Gilles in :51.0 seconds.
Pierce County competed the sweep as Girls' Athlete of the Meet, Spring Valley's Breanna Colbenson, won the 800, 1600 and 3200- meter runs. Her teammate Sam O'Brien won the 100-meter dash and the SV 800-meter relay team was also a winner.
Prescott came away with a title as well in the 3200-meter relay.
EPC will be in action tonight in a meet at Colfax.
