St. Paul to host Big Ten hockey tournament
Regional Sports-- The Big Ten Conference announced yesterday that St. Paul's Xcel Energy Center would be the host to the inaugural Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament in 2014.
PARK RIDGE, Ill -- The Big Ten Conference announced yesterday that St. Paul's Xcel Energy Center would be the host to the inaugural Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament in 2014.
The Big Ten will begin sponsoring men's ice hockey as a conference sport in the 2013-14 academic year. St. Paul will also host the event in 2016. Detroit's Joe Louis Arena will be the host venue for the tourney in 2015 and 2017.
Six teams will comprise the conference, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Penn State. All six teams will qualify for the tournament field every year. The top two teams will earn first-round byes.
