J.J. Barea added 13 points and 12 assists for Minnesota, which snapped an 11-game slide. Anthony Randolph chipped in with 15 points and 10 boards in the win. The Wolves had not won in the month of April since 2009, a winless streak that spanned 27 games. Tayshaun Prince tallied 18 points and five boards for Detroit, which has lost four-of-five. Will Bynum had 17 points off the bench in defeat. Minnesota has two games remaining in the season. The next one is Sunday night at home against Golden State.
The Minnesota Vikings will play in the same old Metrodome this fall but there will be a bit of "interior freshening" for players and fans. Word is that two new scoreboards arrive this summer to replace the 23-year-old boards on the upper deck over Mall Of America Field. The LED displays should be up by August 1st.
The University of Minnesota football team is scheduled to practice today as it winds down the spring practice period. The Golden Gophers will host their annual spring football game tomorrow morning at TCF Bank Stadium at 11 a.m. Gopher head coach Jerry Kill says his main goal for tomorrow's intrasquad game is to make sure his players leave the game healthy, but also to continue to build some positive momentum into the summer workout period. Tomorrow's event is free and open to the public.
New York Yankees star Derek Jeter moved even with Dave Winfield on the all-time hits list in Major League Baseball history during last night's New York win over Minnesota. Jeter's second inning single gave him 3,110 career hits, putting him tied for 19th with Winfield. Winfield is a St. Paul native, a former multi-sport star for the Golden Gophers, and a player who collected his 3000th career hit while playing for the Twins.
