ST. PAUL - NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's lobbying at the Minnesota State Capitol Friday paid off went a state Senate Committee voted 8-6 to approve the Minnesota Vikings stadium proposal.
Goodell met with legislators Friday as he and Governor Mark Dayton tried to persuade them to vote in favor of a new Vikings stadium.
By passing the state Senate committee the proposal for a $1 billion stadium should get floor votes in both houses of legislature this week. Those votes appeared to be in doubt when a state House of Representatives committee had voted down the proposal last week.
The proposal calls for the Vikings to pay $427 million while the state would add $398 million. The city of Minneapolis would contribute $150 million to construction costs. The team would also contribute another $327 million to the stadium's operation, and the city would add another $189 million.
