Police in Beaver Dam are investigating the death of a five-year-old child who was hit by a truck last evening. A detective said youngster apparently darted into traffic from behind a parked vehicle around six p-m, and was struck by a 43-year-old driver. The child died at a Beaver Dam hospital. The victim’s name was not immediately released. Police said alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors on the driver’s part.

Dodge County authorities continue to investigate a weekend incident in which an S-U-V rear-ended a parked police car – and an officer inside had minor injuries. Juneau police officer Brittany Borchardt was hurt in the Saturday night incident. Officials said a 41-year-old Horicon man who drove the S-U-V ran away after striking the squad car. Three passengers in his vehicle escaped injury. One of them, a 26-year-old man, was arrested for obstructing an officer and disorderly conduct. Dodge County sheriff’s deputies used a K-9 unit, and they found the driver yesterday morning in the area of Lake Sinissippi. He faces several possible charges, including hit-and-run causing injury.

Authorities continue to investigate an Interstate crash near Janesville that killed a 24-year-old Beloit man early yesterday. The State Patrol said an S-U-V was going south on Interstate 39-90 about four in the morning when it drifted toward the median. And the driver then over-corrected himself before the vehicle skidded and rolled over several times in the grassy median. The man was thrown into the median, while the vehicle came to rest in the southbound lanes of the freeway. Those lanes were closed for about 45 minutes. The driver’s name was not immediately released.

An 82-year-old Waupaca man was killed yesterday in a one-car crash. Waupaca County authorities said the man’s vehicle drove into the right ditch, over-corrected, slid sideways, went into another ditch, and hit a utility pole. It happened just after 11 yesterday morning on Highway 161 near Manawa. The driver was not wearing a seat-belt. His name was not immediately released.
