RED WING - Three men were arrested early Sunday morning following the armed robbery of Wal-Mart, 295 S. Tyler Road.
Matthew Warren Schmidt, 20, 934 Fairview Blvd., Andrue David Landmark, 22, 192 Walter St., and Dylan Timothy Hanson, 20, 725 Bluff St., were booked into Goodhue County Jail on first-degree robbery charges.
Schmidt also faces second-degree assault, fleeing police in a motor vehicle and fourth-degree damage to property charges. Landmark faces fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot and fourth-degree damage to property charges.
Goodhue County dispatch received a report of an armed robbery at the store at 12:08 a.m. It was reported that a single person had entered the store, brandished a handgun and demanded money from a clerk. The suspect then left with an undetermined amount of cash and was seen running across the parking lot.
A Goodhue County Sheriff’s deputy witnessed a vehicle leaving the area around Wal-Mart at a high rate of speed and attempted to stop the vehicle. The deputy and a Red Wing officer pursued the vehicle onto County Road 1.
After about three miles, the vehicle went off the roadway and into a field. Officers found the vehicle about a half mile off the road and abandoned; a pellet gun matching the description of the gun used in the robbery was found in the vehicle.
At about 2:45 a.m., officers noticed a flashlight in a nearby tree grove, and subsequently located and arrested Landmark and Schmidt. Hanson later voluntarily spoke with investigators and was arrested shortly after that interview.
