ST. PAUL -- A Minnesota Vikings stadium bill is headed for a vote on the floor of the state House of Representatives. Backers revived it in a key committee last night by amending it onto a charitable gaming bill, one week after a different panel voted down the package.
"We're starting to pick up a little momentum," says Vikings VP Lester Bagley. He's hoping for more progress today when the bill faces its second committee in the Senate. But Minneapolis DFLer Sen. Frank Hornstein and others warn, if electronic pull-tabs don't generate as much revenue as expected for the stadium, a taxpayer bailout could be needed within a year or two.
House stadium bill sponsor, Moorhead Republican Morrie Lanning responds in a worst-case scenario "that could be the case" but says they have backup revenue sources in the bill to protect against it.
