A fundraiser for Niki Weir will be held Saturday, May 5, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Zion Covenant Church, 210 N. Beulah St., Ellsworth.

There will be a live auction at 7 p.m. by Jeff Hines of Hines Auction Service. Live music by local artists and a sloppy joe meal/buffet will also be featured.

On Sept. 18, Weir was kicked in the face by a horse, her brain swelled, a blood clot formed and went into the left side of her brain. Within a day, the clot burst, causing a stroke. The stroke has left her partially paralyzed on her right side.

Weir’s road to recovery will be long, hard and nothing short of miraculous. She has no use of her right arm and walks using a walker. She and Grant have five children.

Weir plans to attend the fundraiser. Food donations for the event, including salads of all kinds, desserts, bars and cakes, are needed. The doors will be open at 8 a.m. so they can be brought before 4 p.m. With questions, call Dorothy at (715) 220-8732 or Karen at (715) 594-3780.

A list of donors and auction items can be checked out at www.lovetheweirs.blogspot.com.
