TWO RIVERS - The Point Beach nuclear power plant at Two Rivers was put on “alert status” for about two hours last night.
The state Emergency Operations Center said high levels of carbon monoxide were found in a mechanical room at the plant. But officials said no radioactive releases occurred, the public was not in danger, and the alert was called off soon after 11 last night.
The federal government has four classes of emergencies, and the alert was the second-lowest. The Point Beach plant is owned by Next-Era Energy Resources.
