-- Authorities in northwest Wisconsin say the shooting death of a turkey hunter appears to be an accident.
SOMERSET - A woman found dead of in a Somerset-area field Monday afternoon has been identified as Jayne Byrne, 53, Somerset.
The Ramsey County medical examiner has ruled the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Based on the information gathered at this point, it appears that Byrne was turkey hunting when the incident occurred,” said St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts Wednesday.
At about 4:45 p.m. Monday, the St. Croix County Communications Center received a call from a man, who said he had found his wife dead in a field near the intersection of County Road VV and 50th Street in the town of Somerset.
Deputies responded and found the body of a woman. The names of all parties were withheld pending the positive identification of the deceased.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Somerset Fire and Rescue Department and the St. Croix medical examiner.
